THIS about THAT loss to SDSU
The loss to San Diego State may be the sign of more to come in the next year. The competition is increasing for the Broncos with much tougher opponents set to visit from the Big East. Not only do the schools have bigger budgets to spend on football they also have much better players. Comparing the number of current NFL players who attended 2013 Big East schools versus 2013 Mountain West schools isn't close. http://espn.go.com/nfl/college/_/letter/b Big East 2013 members, not counting BSU, have produced 12 NFL players per team on average. The 2013 MWC schools have produced 7 per school. Boise State by the way has 18 NFL players right now...I have no problem going for 2 early in a game. It was hard for me to tell what happened on that botched snap. Even after Miller picked up the ball, he had 2 receivers wide open in the end zone. Maybe Potter would have been a better choice..JC Percy had a hand in the blocked punt. Percy didn't hold his block well enough and the weak attempt to block the kick worked. Harmon ran right into the defender as well...The BSU defense played well enough to win but gave up some big plays in the 2nd half. Adam Muema rushed for over 100 yards in the half, owned the 3rd quarter and put a dagger in their heart on the final drive...Boise States offensive line struggled to block SDSU in the 2nd half BIG TIME. The faster SDSU linebackers pursued from the blind side and twisted and stunted into the face of Southwick. On the failed 2 point conversion in the 4th quarter, it was fullback Dan Paul who got tea kettled and allowed pressure right into Southwick...The SDSU reaction to the win on the field after the game was subdued. They didn't seem THAT surprised. I hardly noticed any players jumping up and down and going nuts. They were not intimated and expected to win that game. This Boise State team isn't feared...Kellen Moore averaged about 11 yards per completion his senior year, Southwick averages about 10. One difference is that Kellen used his check down receivers much more, especially his running backs. Only 10 % of Southwick completions have gone to running backs, Kellen had 20% last year to Harper and Martin...

Something really bothered me about this game. The blue is supposed to be a hard place to win, but nobody seemed surprised. I know the game was late, but fans were leaving after the second botched 2, and even before then the intensity just wasn't there. I haven't been to many games but the crowd that was in the BSU section at the 2010 loss in Reno was louder than the section I sat in for last night's game. From the bleachers to the field, nobody seemed surprised, not just SDSU. I think the biggest difference between this year's team and the Kellen era isn't just QB play but the fact that we don't have any capital-G Great players. Matt Miller and DJ Harper are very good, and Jay Ajayi shows signs that he might be great. Jamar Taylor MIGHT be great, but he's all alone. We're missing the players who have the potential to save us when the others are struggling. Doug saved Kellen saved Titus saved Iloka saved Doug in close games, and we don't have that special something anymore. Can we get there again? Probably. But I imagine that team is two years out.
ReplyDeleteYea didnt seem to faze the fans I saw on the way out.....I also noticed how easy it was to leave the 2 block area. Will be an interesting to see the ALL MWC list
